Patch Borders & Shapes
Merrowed Border
A classic look patch border which wraps around the edge of the entire patch with MERROW machines. Merrowed borderes work best for complete shapes such as squares, rectangles, rounds, or ovals.
If you planning to use a merrowed border, make sure you add at least a 1/4” buffer around the design.
Hot-Knife Cut Border
Hot-knife cut border is ideal for complex shapes with in-cuts. A popular option for jacket patches later will be sewed on.
Diecut Border
A patch design might want to leave a thin strip of twill/felt outside of border for sewing machine to work around. Commonly seen on letterman jackets’ patches, swiss inserts, and hash marks.
